The field of activity of patent attorneys is regulated in the Patent Attorney Act of June 7, 1967, Federal Law Gazette No. 214/1967, as amended by Federal Law Gazette 172/1983, 772/1992, 109/1993, 917/1993, I 112/1999, I 107/2001, I 131/2005, I 15/2008, I 126/2009, I 135/2009, I 126/2013, I 39/2019 and I 88/2021.

The profession of patent attorney is a free profession, it is not subject to trade regulations. The practice of the profession requires entry in the list of patent attorneys maintained by the Chamber of Patent Attorneys.
